  • Abdulbasit Al-Shaibei: Doha has become one of the major sports capitals in the world and our participation in the National Sports Day's events is a part of our social responsibility

QIIB has joined the National Sports Day celebrations this year by taking part in events and activities that reflect the Bank’s keenness to contribute to this day, which has become a firm tradition highlighting the importance of sports and one that calls upon the entire community to engage in sport activities.

Despite the heavy rain a large number of QIIB’s employees have participated in the ‘Walkathon’ organised by the Qatar Central Bank on the Doha Corniche. QIIB CEO Mr Abdulbasit Ahmad Al- Shaibei and senior bank executives were among the participants.

The participants gathered early in the morning in front of QIIB’s headquarters at the Grand Hamad Street before heading together to the marathon’s start point on the Doha Corniche.

On QIIB’s participation in the National Sports Day events, Mr Al-Shaibei said, “We follow the steps of HH the Emir, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani and draw inspiration from his noble guidance, which confirms the importance of sports in our daily life. As you are all aware, sport has a great value since it contributes to the community’s development, vitality and health. Sports contribute to the enhancement of human interaction and establishment of high values of civilisation as well”.

He said, “Qatar National Vision 2030 has laid down the role of sports and today Doha has become one of the major sports capitals in the world. Doha displayed its outstanding success in hosting and organising major international championships, which we will continue to organise in the future. In this respect, the National Sports Day reflects the major role undertaken by our beloved country in relation to sports, on both regional and international levels.”

“At QIIB, we are keen on enhancing the value of sports even as we are a banking institution with a significant economic contribution to the nation. The bank is keen as well on playing its full role in serving the community by supporting and participating in events such as sports, which are celebrated during the National Sports Day. The activities are centred round building a healthy and vibrant community”.

QIIB CEO said, “QIIB is continuously supporting sports and I would like to remind you of the bank’s contribution to the Sport and Social Activities Support Fund in addition to supporting and sponsoring several other sport activities and events, especially at the national level. The bank firmly believes that supporting and encouraging various sports activities and events is a part of its ongoing corporate social responsibility. QIIB believes in such social responsibilities and considers it as a priority along with other fields such as education, health, cultural and religious activities and others.”

Mr Al-Shaibei expressed his conviction that the yearly events of the National Sports Day have achieved significant results, with the active participation of nationals and residents. Their active involvement highlights the importance they attach to sports and leading a healthy lifestyle. In addition to being interactive, cross-cultural and cross-national activities, sports promote bonding between societies and nations and enhance the value of human civilisation.  Hence, winning or losing is not the key aspect of sports.
